Roger has been doing all the preliminary work on this batch.  It's his baby!

We brewed up Roger's recipe today.   He was a bit concerned that the honey would screw things up, and it just might have.  The fermentation doesn't look like it's vary vigorous.  This might be a problem.

We also tried something new with the chilling coil.  I have a small sump pump that does 600 gallons per hour.  We put this in a 5 gallon bucket and used 5 bags of ice.  This cooled the wort down in about the same amount of time as using water from the well, but we didn't use nearly as much water.  About 1/2 way through Scott ran down to Lafayette Market and got 2 more bags of ice.  This method may work out nicely in the Winter time.

I'm hoping we got lucky!  I came home this evening and there was some activity in the airlock.  This is a very good sign!  It took since Sunday (3 days) to see any action.  I'm wondering if this will have to be in the primary an extra long time, say 2-3 weeks possibly.  Roger was very happy on this turn of events!

The fermentation has seemed to stop, so after a call to Roger we decided to put a heating pad on the frementer....Man did I catch crap for that!  Let's hope it brings it back to life, and doesn't get it too hot!  Anything over 75°F is too hot for what were doing!  The bad thing is I really don't have a way to track the temperature!
